How to use this tool

  1. 1

Choose one still JPEG, PNG or WebP image no larger than 25 MB or 24 megapixels.

  2. 2

Select 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16 or a custom ratio, then adjust the focal position using the sliders.

  3. 3

Review the selected crop in the preview, adjust the focal sliders if needed, and download the cropped image at its selected dimensions.

Turn a wide photo into a square portrait or a landscape frame into a vertical composition. Choose a ratio, position the crop with the focal sliders, and preview the selected area. You control the placement; this is not an automatic subject detection tool.

Pick the shape before the pixel size

An aspect ratio describes the relationship between width and height. A 1:1 crop is square. A 16:9 crop is wide, while 9:16 is tall. These ratios do not specify a file size or a fixed number of pixels. Start with the shape required by your destination, then decide whether to reduce the output dimensions.

Use a custom ratio when the destination gives an unusual shape. Keep width first and height second: entering 3:2 creates a landscape crop, while 2:3 creates a portrait crop. The preview helps catch an accidental reversal before you export.

Example: place a person inside a square crop

Suppose a 1600 by 900 photograph has a person standing near the right edge. A centered square would cut away much of that person. Select 1:1 and move the horizontal focal position toward the right until the preview includes the face and shoulders. Check the top of the head and any important hand or object near the edge.

The tool selects the largest rectangle of your chosen ratio that fits inside the original picture. In this example, the square selection is 900 by 900 pixels. To make a smaller copy such as 450 by 450, download the crop and then use the image resizer.

What the focal sliders can change

The sliders move the selected frame within the available picture. They do not generate missing background, rotate the picture or identify a face. At an image edge, there may be no further room to move the crop in that direction. A ratio close to the original shape also leaves little room for repositioning.

If important content cannot fit inside the chosen ratio, try another ratio or keep the original composition. Cropping necessarily removes material outside the selected rectangle. The resizer can reduce the whole picture while preserving its shape, but it does not add padding or turn a rectangular picture into a square.

Check detail before downloading

Review small text, faces and edges in the preview. A narrow crop from a large photograph can still have limited resolution because only part of the original remains. The exported file size can vary by browser and format, so a successful crop does not guarantee that the output meets an upload byte limit.

Only still JPEG, PNG and WebP images are supported. SVG, GIF, HEIC, PDF and animated files are rejected. Check both file size and decoded dimensions when an input fails: a highly compressed image can exceed 24 megapixels despite being less than 25 MB.

Each side is limited to 16,384 pixels. Outputs are limited to 25 MB per image and 150 MB per batch; ZIP bundles the files without recompression.

Frequently asked questions

Is the original overwritten?

No. Cropping creates a new downloadable image. The selected file is processed in your browser, and its image data is not uploaded to a cropping server.

Can I crop several photos at once?

This cropper works with one image at a time so you can choose the composition individually. The converter, compressor and resizer support batches when the same settings suit several images.

Can this remove a person or object?

Only by placing that area outside the crop. It cannot erase an object inside the retained picture or reconstruct the background behind it.
